One of the things I will always be up front about is the state of my fitness. Right now, I am doing well in the gym and getting the job done, but the running has been a constant struggle for me. I just don’t have that impetus right now, mainly due to all of the leg work I have been doing. It is disheartening to the point where I feel like giving up the whole weightlifting thing just to get better at my running again. That is the inner struggle right now, mainly because I simply want to get better at both disciplines simultaneously. It is not an easy battle, especially when your body is constantly out of whack and hurting. Here is a little bit of straight fire truth for you people. If you are going to be doing this whole “fitness thing” in your life, just be sure to maintain your body properly. I ran into a little money situation and voila! My body starts falling apart. My back had spasms like crazy. My legs were tired and stiff. I am sure there are some knots the size of of matzo balls on my back. My neck was in such horrible shape, I was getting some of the worst headaches I have gotten in quite a while. Paying for maintenance was never a problem when I was donating plasma, but of course, I don’t really have the time to do that anymore. Not to mention how out of whack my body felt from having blood taken from my body and then put back in twice a week. Such is the conundrum in life when you are trying to scrape every penny you have available. This is the part of life where it kind of stinks to have a lot of skills that just don’t cross reference into work areas. Ugh….
Right now, I’m just trying to figure out ways to get myself back on track, whether that means doing less leg work and more running or maybe just giving up on the whole weight lifting thing all together. Okay, that will not be the case…I have gone too far on this journey to stop. But I have to say, this is getting frustrating. This is one of those typical doldrums I run into every year or so, and this year it has really hit me hard. Fortunately I have a couple of new things in my life to try and keep me going, especially with the Olympic weight lifting that I am doing at Parsons every Tuesday night and the “Wods" that Jon is demanding I do more often. Perhaps it is time for me to start looking for a bonafide yoga studio, for my yogi in training Rhue is preparing to move out of the state, and thus has not been able to give me the guidance I need in that spectrum of my working out. I don’t know, when you hit that strange pit where you seem to have no dedication and passion is becoming more frequent for me. While I have gotten to the point with my job where I can comfortably do it, it is still tedious and binding…like I am stuck while I get rejected by other jobs. I don’t know what to do right now. It is one of those instances in life where changes have to be made once again.
The good thing for me is the fact I am quite ready for these doldrums, for I have pretty much faced them every year without too much incident. This year seems little tougher than most, mostly because I am in the most comfortable state I have been since 2014. It’s weird, but that weird desperation of the last couple years are not prevalent, and a state of malaise has hit me because things have actually normalized for the most part. I mean, I am working consistently and at least can survive. I am planning a road trip possibly to Denver in August, which might help with my attitude problem right now. The best thing that happened to me last year was when I took a trip to visit my family up in The Mile High City, getting away and sucking in the mountain air. I think this time I will try to take some resumes with me. And this time, I might want to actually get a show at Red Rocks, provided the weather is not too horrible. Either way, that is something to look forward to. I also need to start planning some races for the future, for that will certainly force me to actually train better. Like they always say, giving yourself a reason to do something is made all the easier when you have money on the situation. Oh well, enough of this negative stuff. Things could be worse, like the guy I helped today that has still yet to get his 864 dollars back from Samsung after his Note 7 was recalled….six months before. Fortunately I got him some clarity on the subject, forcing the Samsung representative to give the guy his money considering they consistently tried passing the buck to my company. I was a little pissed off for the guy, I will admit. At least admit your product was a piece of junk and give people their money back.
Right now, I am pretty darn sore, as expected. I put together a rather difficult workout on Tuesday, something I called “50s” and blowing through it in 43 minutes. I kinda showed up late, and plus I wanted to make sure I had enough energy for my nearly 50-minute training session with John Shaver. Tuesday nights are certainly becoming my tough night, for even though I had plenty of nutrition going in, I still ended the night tapped and in desperate need of some PHOD bars (fortunately Christa gave me some samples for some new flavors of breakfast bars that she is putting together…I will say they are a success once she gets a little more lemon in the lemon poppy flavor). I shouldn’t say all things are going bad I guess, it’s just then you have a battered body, you tend to think a little more negatively. There is an obvious correlation between the two, for the days I am at my worst are when I am feeling my worst. I mean, I’m surprised how I did not rail on someone Tuesday, for I was in such pain from my neck and shoulders that I took some time off at the end of the work day to go see a chiropractor, which I couldn’t really afford at the moment. Couple with a lighter workout regimen, I was ablate survive that rather busy and tiresome workout day. I wanted to go harder and heavier, but the truth is my heart and my body were just saying no. That is the key to anyone’s fitness regimen. You always have to know when to say no at certain points.
So here I sit here, still sore and tired and what not, which is why focus is more important than anything. This is when you need to set up some short terms goals to help you get over the hump. So I will establish mine right now. I will seek to run three times a week, a minimum of two miles. Next week, I will start consistently getting back to the chiropractor and the muscle scraping. More than anything, I need both of them at this juncture since it is pretty clear my body is wearing down. As the summer months start approaching and the yearly sleep problems I have will begin to crop up once again, it is imperative I get back on the program more consistently. Fortunately, I have not had any problems with my water intake, so I don’t have to worry about that too much going forward. So what to do with this rut? I mean, I am trying some new stuff again and simply forcing myself to get better. I have modified my easting regimen a little on Tuesdays and Thursdays, making sure my food intake is on point as I look to incorporate a two-a-day style workout regimen on those days. I’m gonna try to do some running after the workout on Thursday, maybe something short like a couple miles, just to get myself into the groove a little better. There is also some talk at Parsons that they might start doing the Olympic training twice a week, which means Thursday might be the ideal day to do that in the near future. We shall see how that works out in the future.
I know this blog has been a little gloomy, so I’m gonna try to get some more positive stuff in this one. Next week will be good week for me, as not only is Band of Horses will be coming to town this Tuesday, the Found Footage Festival will be hitting town once again at the Rialto Theater o the 27th. This past week was also pretty beneficial as well, getting the chance to see a couple of old friends I haven’t seen in years. Getting out of the house, even if it is to just shoot the shit is good for me. It really helped with my stir craziness at home. I also had a nice little Sunday with my mother and father during Mother’s Day. Needless to say, the pain in my body has been dulled by all of these interactions. I also found a new show to really get obsessed about, such in a way I have not felt in quite. I got into Mr. Robot this past month, binge watching the show that centers on a hacker named Elliott Alderson who is a part of a grand conspiracy to erase all of the debt in the world by destroying the electronic records of a megacorporation name E Corp (which he calls Evil Corp). I like the fact that it is pretty realistic in its approach, touching on one of the more pervasive realties of hacking and how these people get their information. While people think it is all about busting firewalls and invading systems, the reality is the fact most hackers “fish” for information from gullible people and directly infiltrate a lot of computer systems to directly steal information. When you think about Yahoo or Target or any other company that has had its problems with hacking the past couple years, the human element is most likely the main reason…not the electronic. Either way, I really dig the show quite a bit, so much so that I intend to try and get the jacket that the ubiquitous “Mr. Robot” (played well by Christian Slater) wears in the show. I’m hoping I can get it in time for Halloween. I mean, I am the right age and even have similar glasses to Mr. Robot. Which also begs the question…Christian Slater is only 48?! They guy has been around forever!
Anyway, enough about my love of oddball shows, mainly because I will just continue to go off on the idea and get really obsessed with it. I have to thank my friend Tim on this one, for I want to catch this show but never had the impetus until he mentioned it to me. I don’t really bing watch a whole lot of TV shows, which is why I liked the old format that FX had when they had a rotating cast of shows that really caught my fancy like Sons of Anarchy, Justified, The Bridge and Wilfred (and yes, I really loved a show about a wise cracking dog…still need to see the last season). So yes, there is a lot of catching up for me to do this upcoming year, but one step at a time. I either need to have a very busy movie weekend one of these weeks or just continue the idea of not caring about watching television. So far, the not caring is winning.
Anyway, I intend to do Jon’s preset Wod that he has ready for me today, especially since I will be tired but ready to go. I am still feeling residual soreness from earlier this week, but then again, the chairs at work are just murdering my body and making life difficult on me. Of course, my job claims they will be changing the chairs soon enough, but I will believe it when I see it. Either way, I just need to re-budget my need for body maintenance, which means I cannot wait to get my body kicked when I go for my body massage on Monday. Trust me, that is gonna be sweet! Either way, I just need to vent a little today. I know I have had some good post lately, but when you are not feeling all that great, you can run into some issues with your mental state. It will be a matter of getting back on track.
