One thing that can be said, I have been in a good mood lately. So far this past week, not too many things at work are driving me up the wall, and the pace of the days have been less brisk as usual. If anything. I have managed to get myself through the average day with little effort, for this eating regimen of mine is going good still (even if I did have an extra helping of nuts the other night). I am really proud of myself in this respect, mainly because I am showing some actual restraint, and while I may have miscalculated how much food I thought I was eating, I at least have not had any hunger problems so far. Now let me predicate that by saying “so far.” Either way, a lot of fitness things have been going well for me. I got a pretty good workout combo on Monday and Tuesday, doing a lot of heavy lifting and making myself work pretty hard despite the promise massive amounts of food not on the docket like I normally used to have. I mean, I used to pig out after my Monday sessions but now I have to quickly scoot home, eat a quick meal and start preparing for the upcoming week. It hasn’t been all that bad to say the least, for I have really yet to hit that moment where I feel like I yell or lose my mind. Trust me, being a bit out of sorts with my inner self is not a good mode these days, getting some things together in the process has made me feel more relaxed lately. Regularly going to the massage therapist, chiropractor and yoga has made my body hurt less these days, and the only hard part left is getting my body retrained for running once again.
So yes, a lot of subjects are being glossed over right now, mainly due to knee jerk reactions to everything under the sun. Which reminds me, how can the dollar be “too strong?” Either way, I always look to the small subjects to rant about and point out some weird things. Let’s see if I can actually make it through this post….
WHAT THE HECK IS A FITNESS INFLUENCER?
So in my infinite quest to seek out new information and enlighten myself to the world of fitness, I always get led into the murky and often times treacherous world of the so-called fitness coach. There are a lot of meanings to this term, mainly because it is so loosely thrown around in the fitness ether. A coach can be someone at a Crossfit gym with some marginal experience, taking a two day course and having the honor of running his own “box.” Heck, why bother with such pleasantries when you can just go to Orange Theory and not need any certification at all, watching a couple dozen people put your health into their hands simply because it is cool and the place is bathed in orange light. Okay, the old cynic in me is coming out and I’m making some rather baseless accusations…okay they are not baseless. I’ve commented enough about people in this world that try to take advantage of the weak and easy mentality of trying to be a fitness “inspirer” or whatever the heck they wanna call it these days. I put down people that intentionally do stuff to build their useless brand and I refuse to continue feeding their ethos. But let’s face it, this is a losing battle for me. So there is an actual list for top “influencers,” based on likes, followers and app downloads on social media platforms. Now I looked up the profiles of some of these people and they certainly seem to be trying hard, using the right amount of good looks, sex appeal and intuitiveness to make some money out of this venture they are going through. But it brings the cynic out of me. While people are going to their seminars and making themselves wealthy and making people feel good for following them…is there a real sense of change happening? Influencing a person is one thing, but actually helping someone is another. Are they gonna correct someone’s bad form? Are they gonna make up for accountability standards? Are they gonna make demands on your eating? The answer is pretty much no, and right now the cult of celebrity and the desire to connect with social media people in regards to these figures is an intoxicating feeling. We all want to be like them, but just what will the work really be in order to make this work. Now there will be plenty of success stories, I’m not doubting that, but the vast majority will most likely do it to feel like they are a part of a movement that can help them alter a conversation and elevate them by current societal “coolness” standards. The world has become so fragmented due to the individuality complex that many people have forgotten a more macro sense of community. I forgot that myself sometimes, trying to figure out ways to cheat the system when really it came down to just a few things. Be more consistent in the gym, control your eating and push yourself appropriately. That’s always something the trainers at Parsons Training emphasize…you do have the potential to be better, but simple Instagram wisdom isn’t the primary path. That’s a reason why I don’t really listen to these people, mainly because helping people is typically the last thing on their agenda. Getting on Ellen or some other daytime show will be their first agenda. Now of course, this is just the cynic in me but then again I hold people that actually work side by side with in higher esteem. Social media wisdom only goes so far. So that will always be my advice. Stick to the real world and don’t rely on preset, focus grouped messages to succeed. You have to make that commitment that is right for you.
Right now my commitment has taken some hard turns once again, but that’s because I felt it was needed and I have some guidance along the way to help out. Now it is just a matter of commitment.
MAYBE I SHOULD START EATING THAT GUACAMOLE
There is no secret that I hold a special place in hell for the plant that is the avocado. People have given me weird looks, my family has laughed at me and other vegans have feigned horror when I say avocados (and by proxy guacamole) looks and tastes like something from the bottom of a tire that trudged through a landfill. Yup, I do not like the stuff, and I will likely go to my grave not liking the stuff. Either way, the bizarre look and consistency of the plant makes me feel weird just writing about it, for it has the same effect on me that steamed spinach and brussels spouts used have on me when I was growing up (now regular brussels sprouts and spinach are actually really good to me these days). Now don’t think I will be changing my stance any time soon, but apparently some people will pretty soon have some good sources to throw on my fire of hate when it comes to talking about avocados. http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316885.php
The study listed n the link indicates that avocados—the rather weird and inconsistently gooey plant—may help in reducing your risk of metabolic syndrome. Directly from the WebMD site, Metabolic Syndrome is “not a disease in itself. Instead, it's a group of risk factors -- high blood pressure, high blood sugar, unhealthy cholesterol levels, and abdominal fat. Having any one of these risk factors isn't good, but when they're combined, they set the stage for serious problems. These risk factors double your risk of blood vessel and heart disease, which can lead to heart attacks and strokes. They increase your risk of diabetes by five times.” Now of course, this does not ring too well for me, for apparently this syndrome apparently hits one in six people in the United States. Now the cynical skeptic in me will shrugs his shoulders and state this would preemptively mean just about every in the country is sick to some effect, but it really isn’t that simple. Let me put it to you this way as well, for metabolic syndrome may also be a knee jerk reaction as well considering the official diagnosis has only been around for 20 years or so. That is hardly a time frame to really determine is something is legitimate.
So this is why metabolic syndrome issue easy to diagnose….you could have some symptom of it already!! Now for me, I sometimes would have a high blood pressure at some points in the day, but that would also be factored in by the fact I might be struggling with stress at work. Which happens a lot. I still have entirely too much fat on my body, so that could also be something that might hurt me as well down the line. So I already have plenty of risks staring me down the long barrel of a gun, which is why I need to take heavier action to reduce my body weight down and be more consistent in my working out. Now why are avocados considered so good for you? There are a lot bioactive components of avocados, which include carotenoids, fatty acids, minerals such as calcium, iron, and zinc, and vitamins A, B, C, and E. Basically it is rich in a lot nutrients the body needs to survive on a day to day basis. Avocados also had the most effect in the study on a body’s cholesterol, mainly due to the healthy fats the plant possesses. There is a big reason why avocado oil is the biggest and newest thing not only in the vegan community, but also in the cooking community in general. I’ll admit, even though this is not scientific, the avocado based oil potato chips I was eating not too long ago were certainly better and didn’t leave me wishing for death as much a the standard vegetable oils that are used on a lot of other chips. Perhaps science is on to something? Perhaps avocados will see a surge much like chickpeas and hummus due to the rising popularity of the plant? Either way, you won’t see me eating that stuff.
AN UPDATE ON MY RUNNING
Well, instead of boring you with a third article about health studies and what not, here is what is going on in my life. As you may have removed, Ragnar Del sol was pretty rough on me for couple of reasons. My body was in shambles and I was not trained. So I took some time off and have been easing back into the sport as of life. Due to some laziness and malaise, I am finally starting to go multiple times a week again, and the results have been rather embarrassing. Here I am, a man that used to run sub-10-minute miles is well over the mark, and I can barely get through three mile runs these days. Now part of the issue is still work and the other part is due to the controlled eating,. but the other reason is duet lack of desire. I fall into these slumps from time to time with the running, and this usually coincides with the fact I need to get some new running shoes. Now my current shoes are not horrible, but it obviously tells me a certain type of shoe is what I need going into the future. Now one thing I have learned is I cannot use a flat sole shoe anymore. What I mean by this is that I should be running shoes that have one long continuous pattern. I had a lot more success with my other shoes due to the fact they had something of a “bridge” in the middle of the shoe while the sole and heel had their own shock absorbing systems.
This comes as a bit of a revelation for me, for I never really noticed this problem until I got these pair of shoes. Like I said, I cannot blame it on the shoes but I never really felt the fullest capability while in those shoes. I might have to start looking backward and go to an older style or look to a shoe that better suits my abilities. Remember, it is not what is on the side of the shoe, but how it helps make you feel. Hopefully the rebuilding efforts help me get back into running shape and start feeling good about myself soon enough.
